Biography
The son of Sardinian immigrants, Carlos Conca discovered his mathematical vocation at an early age in the classrooms of the San Gabriel School in Santiago. What began as a childhood curiosity transformed into an exceptional career that took him from Chile to France and back, building bridges between fundamental mathematics and its real-world applications.
With 54 years (since 1973) of uninterrupted career, Conca represents a generation of Chilean scientists who not only achieved international excellence but also returned to transform education and research in their country. The first Chilean to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the French government, recipient of the National Prize for Exact Sciences, and co-founder of three national research centers, his legacy transcends equations: he trained 16 PhDs who now hold academic positions in eight countries.
